Our Purpose
Music brings people together, develops self-confidence, and builds healthy communities. The Salem/Keizer community and school districts have active and well-regarded music programming. However, barriers prevent some members of our community and schools from accessing music education and programming. SMI strives to support aspiring music students of all ages by providing resources and access to music lessons, programs and events they would otherwise be unable to participate in.

Salem Music Initiative transforms the lives of the Salem area community by providing access and support to music and music education programs. Our primary goals are to help people experience music and music education for personal growth, lifelong skill development, provide health benefits through the playing and enjoyment of music, build and support our arts, music, and community connection.
Our Vision
We envision a community where all Salem-Keizer area musicians have an opportunity to access music education regardless of age, skill level, musical taste, experience, ability, or resources.

Music has the unique ability to gather a broad cross-section of the community representing diverse socioeconomic levels and ethnic groups. Individuals interested in enriching our community through music bring varied strengths and musical skills together to teach, learn, share and grow with one another. Teachers, students, parents, and community members work together to support one another and strengthen our communities through music.
